Overview

Overview:


The Mitsubishi Triton is a 5-seater pick-up truck that was first unveiled in the year 1978. Earlier, it was launched with the name Mitsubishi Forte, but with further advancements and refurbishment, this vehicle got a make-over and badged with the name “Triton”. Currently, there are five different variants of Triton are offered in Malaysian market like Triton VGT, 2.5 AT, 2.5 MT, 2.5 Standard and Triton Lite Turbo. These variants are available with two diesel engines options with different transmission options. The 2.5-liter 8-valve SOHC engine is equipped in Triton Lite Turbo that churns out a maximum power of 90ps at 4000rpm and a peak torque of 196Nm at 2000rpm. Rest of the variants are powered by 2.5-litre, DOHC 16-valve inter-cooled turbocharged (VGT) Common Rail DI-D (4D56) engine that produces power in different states of tune like 178ps and 136ps. This dissimilitude in power is due to the responsive 4-speed automatic transmission with Sports mode and 5-speed manual transmission options. Besides the transmission, solid muscular frame of the Triton and its aerodynamic body design states the strong performance bagged with advanced suspension, strong brakes and rack-and-pinion based steering wheel. Easy select 4WD and 2WD drive modes improves the performance of the vehicle in all kind of terrains. For worst situations, driving on highly uneven off-roads, hybrid-type limited slip differential (LSD) helps the vehicle to remain balanced. Alongside, other safety features are also equipped with this massive vehicle that keeps the occupants calm in emergency cases. Dual SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), front seatbelt pretensioner, security alarm are some of them. The Mitsubishi RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) structure raise the overall safety standard of the vehicle. Exterior structure is redefined adding sportiness to the appearance with projector headlamps, newly designed grille and sturdy front bumper. The interiors are lined in leather or fabric in the variants and offer several utility features, making life easy for its occupants on-board. These utility vehicles have room lights and integrated 2-DIN stereo system with 6-speakers set a different arena for the pick-up truck class. Moving towards top end variants and the latest launch, VGT trim is also blessed with a navigation, touch screen panel and rear view camera creating new definition of the cargo-loading vehicles.

Mileage and Fuel economy:


Mitsubishi Triton variants are fitted with a 4 cylinders Inline DOHC based Common Rail diesel engine. It delivers a good mileage of 100 kilometers by consuming an average fuel of 8.6 litres.

Power:


Mitsubishi Triton is powered with 2.5-litre, DOHC based intercooled turbocharged (VGT) diesel engine. While few of the variants are equipped with a 2.5-liter SOHC based, in-line 4 cylinder diesel engine. Its DOHC version generates an optimum power output of 178ps at 4000rpm and develops a maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1800rpm to 3500rpm. While its Triton 2.5 AT, 2.5 MT and 2.5 Standard are equipped with the same engine producing power of 136ps and high torque of 314Nm. The other SOHC based diesel engine equipped in Triton Lite Turbo churns out maximum power of 90ps and a maximum torque of 196Nm.

Acceleration & Pickup:


The Mitsubishi Triton series in Malaysia comes powered with two types of diesel engines, which are good at acceleration count to move ahead on the road. The 2.5-litre engine of Triton breach the speed mark of 100 Kmph from standstill in around 14.3 seconds, while its top speed is estimated to be 170 km/h.

Exterior:


Mitsubishi Triton is available in different variants, but the most recent and renowned structure is of Triton VGT with added sportier aesthetic value to it. The highlights of this strong structure is its projector headlamps, newly designed grille and sturdy front bumper. The front grille is accentuated with the silver-tarnish finish and added with company symbol in the center. The front fog lamps clear the vision in rainy and inadequate climatic conditions. The raised overall stance of the body excel its speed in all-types of terrains without damaging the body and occupants sitting inside. The side mirrors are kept in chrome-finish with power adjustable side turn lamp and folding function. In all the variants, windows comes with laminated green windshield glass and rear windows with defogger function to provide clarity of vision for the driver. In combination with the vehicle fender, mudguard in rear and front wheels protects the body from flying debris and mud.

Exterior Measurements:


All the available variants of Mitsubishi Triton varies in its overall length, which measures at 5115 mm for Triton VGT, 5295mm for Triton 2.5 AT and 5220mm for Triton Lite Turbo variant. Width and total height of the vehicle measures at 1750mm and 1655mm for Triton Lite Turbo, while the rest of the variants have 1800mm and 1780mm, respectively. The wheelbase is same for all the variants measuring 3000mm. The minimum ground clearance is 200mm for Triton Lite Turbo and 205mm for others.

Interior:


Mitsubishi Triton offers seating capacity to 5-passengers at a time with extensive cargo space in the rear. This pick-up truck is lauded with urbane features adding sportiness to its interior profile to meet the expectations of its buyers. The dashboard is lined in soft-touch upholstery allover and seats are covered in leather. The driver's seat is provided with the manual reclining and height adjustable headrest for comfort seating position. It also has an ergonomically set with 4-spoked leather/urethane covered steering wheel. In the direction of steering wheel, black-faced back-lit meters and instrumental gauges with tachometers surrounded by silver rings are set, which provide useful information to the driver. Adding to its sophistication, gearshift knob and transfer knob is housed in the center console that is wrapped in leather. To enlighten the inner cabin, proper illumination and lightning is provided with room lamp in the front and rear along with map lamps and all side door courtesy lamps.

Interior Comfort:


The interiors of this pick-up is not just designed to carry heavy weights on long runs, but it also offers better comfort and utility spaces like bottles holders, pockets and sunglass holders. The storage compartments also includes front door pockets with bottle holders, lockable and illuminated glove box, removable cup type ashtray, scuff plate, ticket holder for driver's sunvisor and vanity mirror with lid for front passenger. Additionally, it also has sunglass pocket on overhead console, floor console box, rear center armrest with cup holders and much more. For discharged gadgets, mobile phone and other electronic accessories, 12V socket on floor console armrest is provided. Rear windows are provided with functional power sliding anti-trapping feature, while the drivers side power window with anti-pinch function.

Interior Measurements:


Mitsubishi Triton pick up truck come with an impressive cargo volume of 1520mm in length, 1470mm in width and 475mm in height. With these measurements, it can accommodate huge and heavy cargo.

Engine and Performance:


Mitsubishi Triton is powered with 2.5-litre, DOHC based intercooled Common Rail DI-D engine. This engine in top end variants produces a maximum power output of 178ps at 4000 rpm along with a high torque of 350Nm at 1800rpm to 3500rpm. While the same mill in base trims produes a power of 136ps at 4000rpm and high torque of 314Nm at 2000 rpm. This vehicle is also available with 2.5-liter, inline-4 cylinder turbocharged SOHC based diesel engine. This turbocharged engine churns out maximum power of 90ps at 4000rpm and a maximum torque of 196Nm at 2000 rpm. The Triton VGT trim is available with 5-speed automatic transmission featuring sports mode, while the 2.5 AT version is available with 4-speed automatic transmission that has Sports mode.

Stereo and Accessories:


This vehicle features an advanced stereo, audio and other entertainment aspects depending upon the variants. Its Triton Lite Turbo trim has an in-house 1-DIN audio system with AM/FM/CD players and auxiliary input where you can connect the other devices and play your favorite tunes. Rest of the variants are equipped with 2-DIN audio system again packed with AM/FM CD MP3 WMA players along with USB jack and remote control feature. In-an-all, the stereo system gives better quality sound output with its 6 speakers. Bluetooth connectivity allow further connection of external devices like your phone. Apart from this, touchscreen panel, rear view camera and navigation system is also available in this series that assists you to choose right track.

Wheels:


This model series is available with an option 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels depending upon its variants. Its 16-inch rims are covered with 245/70 R16 sized tubeless radial tyres, while its 17-inch wheels are embraced with 245/ 65 R17 sized high performance tubeless radial tyres.

Braking and Handling:


To ensure a safe ride, Triton variants have ventilated disc brakes on the front wheels and leading-and-trailing drum brakes on the rear wheels. Its front axle is fitted with independent double wishbone, coil springs suspension, while the rigid elliptic leaf springs suspension is given for rear axle. At the same time, it also has rack and pinion steering system to ensure smooth drive on any type of road. Also 4WD and 2WD mode allows you to switch to the compatible mode based on the surface you are going to travel. 2WD is best-fit for the highways and plain surfaces where rear wheel drive accelerates the vehicle and deliver fuel economic results. 4WD drive is made for uneven surfaces where all wheels receive torque keeping the vehicle on track. In worst situations, while taking off-road handling of the vehicle, 4WD low range will solve the purpose so as to produce maximum traction through mud and sand. Besides this, there are situations when wheels toggle in different states (in-contact with the surface and without contact), which increases chances of rolling the vehicle. Thus, hybrid-type Limited Slip Differential (LSD) keeps the vehicle balanced by allocating power to the wheels and keep the vehicle moving in forward direction.

Safety and Security:


Safety has been kept as an integral part in Triton variants. They have aspects like front & rear door with impact bar, front seatbelt pretensioner, security alarm, dual SRS airbags for driver and front seat passenger are given almost in all the variants of Mitsubishi Triton. Furthermore, there is anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) enhances the vehicle's braking mechanism. The Mitsubishi RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) protects the exterior body in case of a collision and safeguards the occupants from injuries.
