Overview

The compact SUV from the Japanese multinational automobile giant, Honda CR-V is one of the smallest SUVs produced by the company in terms of size but when it comes to sales, CR-V almost always bags the zenith position. Right from its inception in 1995, CR-V was made into a compact SUV derived from Honda Civic and has been one of the world's best selling SUVs since.

Malaysia in 2015 gets hold of the ASEAN version of CR-V, the body styling has been revised to make it superiorly elegant, yet the all muscle touch that has been always associated with CR-V has gone nowhere. The new CR-V gets hold of newly revised bumpers, DRL-equipped headlamps and a dynamic new Solid Wing Face grille. It is currently being produced under two variants - Honda CR-V 2.0 i-VTEC and Honda CR-V 2.4L i-VTEC. Both the variants employ an electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission coupled with torque converter clutch.

With PGM-Fi (Programmed Fuel Injection system) Honda CR-V 2.0 i-VTEC comes packing with a SOHC 4 cylinder, 16 valve, i-VTEC engine responsible for drawing out a maximum power output of 155 PS at 6500 rpm in line with a maximum starting torque measuring 190 Nm at 4300 rpm. The top variant appointing a 2.4-litre DOHC 4 cylinder, 16 valve i-VTEC engine betters the output further giving out a maximum power output measuring 190 PS at 7000 rpm in line with a maximum torque of 222 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The interiors of the new CR-V has been revised to add luxury and comfort for the passengers. The 2.0-litre variants gets hold of conventional fabric seats while with the top end 2.4-litre Honda CR-V you get hold of leather upholstery, which defines class in itself. Additional features include rear ventilation air conditioning, Dual Zone control air conditioning, foot parking brake and Tonneau cover.

Mileage and Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is the biggest winner when the 5-speed CVT transmission is coupled with Honda's patented Earth Dreams technology which directly increases the performance and mileage of the vehicle. The new face-lifted CR-V delivers an efficient mileage of 11 km/l, more than what you would expect from a dedicated SUV.

Power

With both the variants of Honda CR-V you are in for a very promising drive. Honda applies programmed fuel injection system in both its variants. The top end Honda CR-V with a big 2.4-litre engine draws a maximum output power of 190 PS at 7000 rpm alongside a maximum torque measuring 222 Nm, these specifications are more than just decent to say the least about them. The output power drawn by the entry level variant is slightly lower with a maximum output power measuring 155 PS at 6500 rpm in line with a maximum starting torque measuring 190 Nm at 4300 rpm, for a 2-litre variant, these figures are impressive too.

Acceleration and Pick Up

Benefited by the Earth Dreams Technology and CVT transmission, and impressive engine specifications Honda CR-V pulls out an outrageous acceleration despite being an SUV clocking 0-100 kmph in less than 10.6 seconds, the maximum speed reached measures 190 Km/h (figures for 2.4-litre variant). For the base variant the figures are not disappointing either, with CR-V reaching 0-100 kmph mark in 12.7 seconds and clocking the top speed of 183 km/h.

Exterior

The new face-lifted ASEAN Honda CR-V has undergone some serious redesigning to make it an all muscle yet elegant entry level SUV. This top-seller has been embodied with smooth flowing lines through its pillars and the shape has been redefined to emit aerodynamic sportiness. HID lights are applied up-front which provide more than sufficient vision for a safe drive in the the darkest environments, these lamps are complimented with front fog lamps. The most notable distinction is certainly the front bumper and a new front grille which add up significantly to sports aesthetics of the machine. Up top the roof of Honda CR-V is a Shark fin antenna which gives it a more dominating look. Additional features provided on the outside are side mirrors which have turning lights, projector headlamps, power retractable door mirrors, rear wiper system, front-rear mud guard, and front intermittent variable wiper. This viper is operated by futuristic rain sensing technology in the case of 2.4L i-VTEC.

Exterior Measurements

With a flattering wheelbase measuring 2,620 mm there is enough room for all the passengers to sit comfortably inside. The overall dimensions of Honda CR-V measure 4545mm x 1820mm x 1685mm (L x W x H). The drive offers 170 mm ground clearance and a fuel tank that fills up to 58 litres.

Interior

Everything inside CR-V denotes panache, the all black dashboard up front has been given a sleek an elegant finishes. Major controls have been appointed on the centre including air-cooling control, audio system and gearbox forming the bottom. The steering wheel in itself is highly multipurpose employing controls for MID, bluetooth and audio system. Additional features include rear ventilation air conditioning, Dual Zone control air conditioning, foot parking brake and tonneau cover.

Enough provisions are fit in inside this entry level SUV for your comfort requirements starting off with a smart key entry. No key is required for starting your drive, as Honda CR-V operates on push button start/stop mechanism. In addition to this, the 2.4-litre variant receives an 8-way power seat for the driver for the ease of seat adjustment. Adding to all the comfort features is the 60:40 seat split mechanism, a single pull from your hand on your rear seat and your boot space doubles up.

Interior Dimensions

With a huge wheelbase, there is enough room for all the passengers to extend their legs. The headroom provided feels sufficient too, both for the front and rear passengers. Honda CR-V appoints an impressive boot space in the SUV measuring 589 litres and if that was not enough, with your 60:40 rear seat down this boot space almost doubles up to measure 1146 litres.

Engine and Performance

The base variant of Honda CR-V employs a 2.0-litre SOHC 4 cylinder 16 valve i-VTEC engine with a programmed fuel injection feature. This mix provides a maximum power output measuring 155 PS at 6500 rpm alongside the maximum torque of 190 Nm at 4300 rpm. The 5 speed auto gear transmission appoints Honda's Grade Logic Control, this is a highly efficient system which paves way for better gear shifting.
