It is rightly said, there is simply no replacement for absolute panache. The German luxury auto giant is yet again out with its new elite saloon car - Audi A4. The entry level luxury sedan has always been one of the favorite cars for first time luxury car buyers. And why it shouldn't? Its an Audi after all, designed and engineered to perfection.
The all new Audi A4 is available with two engines embedded which are the 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre (petrol engines) both of which are geared with TFSI technology for incremented overall performance. The roaring sound of this machine is enough to give you a hint of what's in store for you under the hood. The new facelift Audi A4 with its 1.8-litre petrol motor churns out an effective 170 hp maximum power between 3,800 rpm to 6200 rpm alongside a maximum starting torque measuring 320 Nm between 1400 to 3700 rpm. The top-end 2.0-litre petrol engine however generates 225 bhp maximum power output between 4,500 rpm to 6250 rpm boosting a torque measuring 350 Nm between 1,500 rpm to 4500 rpm.
Basic reason of this high output is the amalgamation of two technologies namely turbocharger and variable valve timing. Fuel economy of the 1.8-litre is 17.24 km/l whereas the 2.0-litre lags behind by 14.9 km/l. Like all the drives in Audi's line-up, A4 has also managed the legacy in styling for which it is known. Spacious enough to position itself in the luxury segment the new saloon embeds loads of new technologies. The safety it provides is something that should be really appreciated. It comes with a variety of safety features comprising electronic brake force distribution (EBD), anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist (BA), traction control (ESP), electronic differential lock (EDL). The A4 comes with a start/stop system, cruise control thats adds to the comfort of the driver. Apart from these it also has light and rain sensor, parking display, electromechanical parking brake and tire pressure monitoring sensor. The large wheelbase of Audi A4 makes way for a huge cabin space inside. This space is so wisely managed that the passengers are nicely cocooned inside during long travels. Convenience opening/closing feature for the windows, separate luggage compartment release via radio remote control, tire pressure monitoring system light and rain sensor, driver seat memory function, folding rear and front seat all adds to the comfort factor to the car. Apart from these Audi A4 also has parking aid with park display, cruise control, interior mirror with anti-glare action. Electric blinds at the rear window and manual blinds for rear side windows allow clear and soothing view without dazzle during the days. In addition to this, the drive also comes embedded with electric seat adjustment for both front and rear seats with electric lumbar support.
Though it may look sleek from outside but no compromise is done to the inside, providing an enormous boot space of 490 litres, Audi has provided a good figure of headroom at the front as well as rear, however unlike some of its counterparts enough headroom has been provided even at the rear. Foldable seats at the rear make ample space for the passengers at the back.
Engine and Performance:
Audi A4 is powered by a 16 valve DOHC 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engines which churn out 170 bhp maximum power output between 3,800 to 6200 rpm and a massive 225 hp between 4,300 rpm to 6200 respectively. Alongside this power output, the maximum torque output measures 320 Nm between 1,400 rpm to 3700 rpm for 1.8-litre variant and 350 Nm at 1500 rpm to 4500 rpm for 2.0-litre variant. The tire parameters for both these rims are same measuring 245/ 40R18 & R17 respectively for both rear and front.
Braking and Handling:
A4 is bestowed with dynamic handling having tremendous maneuvering capabilities. Though its the era of electronics, Audi has maintained the legacy of incorporating its steering system with hydraulics. Brakes at the front are ventilated disc type where as to the rear they managed to install solid disc type.
Safety and Security:
Providing a plethora of features doesn't mean that Audi has missed out by any chance on the safety aspects. Knowing the present road conditions Audi has provided a package of safety features in order to keep its customers cocooned in adverse conditions. Audi A4 with 1.8-litre engine embeds 6 airbag- 2 at the front, 2 at head and 2 to the side where as the 2.0-litre TFSI quattro version has two additional ones that is to the rear side. The new A4 comes with a couple of stabilization programs like the traction control, which maintains maximum traction without wheel spin. Electronic differential control ensures faster response time while cornering.
