Review of Nissan Teana

Introduction:

Nissan's Teana emerged first in February 2002 in the Japanese Domestic Market. Later on, getting overwhelming response to this sedan and replacing company's own manufactured cars, Nissan Bluebird and Cefiro, Teana was unveiled all-over the world including Malaysia. In Malaysia, this brand new D-segment sedan offered stiff competition to Toyota Camry which is very well-known on the Malaysian roads. Known for its luxury and space, Teana is one of the finest offerings from Nissan and it looks promising enough to dent the sales of rival Japanese brands in the war of luxury D-segment cars.

Engine, mileage & variants:

For customers discretion, Nissan Teana is offered in three trim levels equipped with two engine types – 2.5 XV, 2.0 XL and 2.0 XE. 2.5 XV is powered with QR25DE, DOHC 4-cylinder, In-line, Twin CVTC engine generating maximum power of 173 PS @ 6000 rpm along with maximum torque of 234 Nm @ 4000 rpm. While the other two trims are packed with MR20DE DOHC, 4-cylinder, 16-valve, In-line, CVTC engine that churns out maximum power of 136 PS @ 5600 and high torque of 190 Nm @ 4400 rpm. The 2.5-litre engine is quite thirsty for fuel and runs 11 km to a litre of fuel whereas the other variants powered with a 2.0-litre engine offers a combined mileage of 13.5 km/l.

Exteriors:

This luxury mid-size sedan of Nissan has bold finesse added to its exterior profile with meticulously crafted dynamics. The all new designing seems union of sleek-sporty curves that beautifully accentuates its aerodynamics. The overall length is of 4885 mm, height 1485 mm, width 1830 mm with the wheelbase of 2775 mm. The 5-spoked alloy wheels make sense in 215/55 R17 for the 2.5 XV variant & 215/60 R16 size for XL/XE variants leaving a distinctive impression when seen in motion. The new signature grille of Nissan with front fog lights, Xenon headlamps and rear LED combination lamps increases visibility and emerge this vehicle as one the great, idiosyncratic talents of the class.

Interiors:

All-new Teana reflects absolute comfortable interiors packed with intelligently placed features and accessories. The seats and steering wheel is in plush leather with power seat 8-way driver, 2-way lumbar and 4-way front passenger seat adjustment. On dashboard, high quality 5 inch color display with rear view camera, AM, FM, CD, MP3, aux-in and USB/Ipod jack is provided to keep you charged throughout the journeys. Electro-hydraulic power steering is mounted with audio, Advanced Drive Assist Display (ADAD), Bluetooth hands-free and cruise control switches for easy handling and mastery over driving. For your cargo, it offers 516-litres of boot space which is a good count for a sedan.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous:

A host of safety features equipped inside Teana give its occupants confidence to excel further and keep counter-check on the balance and handling of the car. Nissan's innovation of safety shield comprises 6 SRS airbags system including dual front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) and Hill-start Assist. Besides, MacPherson Strut independent with stabilizer front and Multi-link Independent with Stabiliser rear suspension works along with Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control to reduce engine power, applying specific brake pressure and keep the vehicle in track not loosing the control over steering and wheels.

Verdict:

Henceforth, Nissan Teana may not woo you with its sharp lines and feature loaded interiors, but overall the car scores decent in every aspect and offers better safety functions and quite a good-handling in comparison to other cars in the class. Pick this car, just be calm and prowess through to the roads!
